Assistant Maintenance Technician

General Description

Under the direction of the Chief Technology Officer (CTO), the Assistant Maintenance Technician primary duty is to assist in maintaining the Center's facilities and perform regular repairs as well as Center vehicles. Performs general repairs of electrical, mechanical, and plumbing systems as well as texturing, carpentry, and painting. Upholds operational maintenance standards to prioritize the safety of clients, staff, and the broader public.

Performs minor building maintenance, removing trash and recycling materials, and prepare accurate repair and cleaning reports. Work involves construction, utility systems, stationary equipment and operating motorized equipment. Works under moderate supervision, with limited latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment.

Education, Training, and Experience

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • One (1) year prior experience performing commercial building maintenance or related field (i.e., mechanical trades, HVAC repair, electrical repair, painting, carpentry, texturing etc.) preferred.

Registration, Certification, Licensure, and Other Qualifications

  • Must have and maintain a background and criminal history free from any disqualifying offenses as outlined by the Texas Administrative Code (TAC) and the Health and Human Services Commission (HHSC).
  • Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license and automobile insurance.
  • Individuals with an out-of-state driver's license must be able to obtain a driver's license in the state of Texas within thirty (30) days.
  • Successful completion of all position-specific training within thirty (30) days of employment is required.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Knowledge of relevant trades and ability to complete minor maintenance repairs.
  • Knowledge and experience using hand and power tools.
  • Skilled hand-eye coordination.
  • Ability to follow instructions and work orders given both verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to climb ladders and lift heavy objects.
  • Ability to manage time effectively.

Essential Duties

The following list outlines key responsibilities for the position; however, it is not exhaustive and does not encompass all responsibilities. Additional duties may be assigned as needed.

  1. 1. Assists the maintenance team in carrying out routine maintenance tasks.

o Supporting and troubleshooting and diagnosing maintenance issues.

o Conducing inspections and basic repairs of equipment and machinery.

o Assists in maintaining accurate maintenance records and documentation.

o Maintains cleanliness in the organization in maintenance areas and workshops.

o Responds promptly to maintenance requests and emergencies.

  1. Performs minor repair work at each of the Denton County MHMR Center locations.

o Repairs doors, door locks and door frames.

o Replaces light bulbs, sockets, and switches.

o Assist in unclogging drains and fixing leaking faucets and toilets.

  1. 3. Assists in the maintenance of all outdoor areas.

o Assists in the maintenance of flower beds and Center grounds.

o Performs trimming of trees as needed.

  1. Ensure company vehicles are maintained and kept in good working order.

o Facilitates prompt car maintenance by arranging for the timely drop-off of Center vehicles for oil changes and vehicle inspections as required.

  1. Works on-call rotation as directed.
  1. Participates in the Center's Zero Suicide Initiative.

o Supports individuals experiencing a crisis by promptly connecting them with appropriate Center programs, such as the Mobile Crisis Outreach Team (MCOT), Psychiatric Triage, Crisis Prevention services, and/or other applicable resources. Ensure seamless coordination to facilitate timely intervention.

o Remains with individuals, when deemed safe, to provide support and maintain a calm environment until specialized crisis staff or emergency personnel arrive to take over intervention efforts. Adheres to safety protocols to prevent escalation of the crisis situation.

o Participates in debriefing sessions with the immediate supervisor or designated staff following a crisis event. Collaborate with the team to review the incident, identify lessons learned, and ensure all HHSC guidelines and Center policies are followed.
