Residential Kitchen Specialist

General Description

Under direction of the Crisis Residential Unit (CRU) Program manager and within federal, state and local guidelines performs duties and responsibilities for planning and preparing daily meals for individuals within the residential program.

Education, Training and Experience (including licensure and certification)

High School diploma or High School equivalency certificate. One year experience working in kitchen environment. Experience working with mental health population preferred. English/Spanish bilingual preferred.

REGISTRATION, CERTIFICATION, LICENSURE OR OTHER QUALIFICATIONS:

  • This position requires you maintain a valid Texas driver's license, auto liability insurance and a driving record acceptable to the Centers insurance requirements.
  • This position requires Food Handler's permit certification (to be completed within first two weeks of employment) and knowledge of general food handler state guidelines.
  • This position requires adherence to all applicable laws, regulations, policies, procedures and/or guidelines of Texas Human and Health Services. Other specific laws, regulations, policies, procedures and/or guidelines which must be followed include: Texas Administrative Code (TAC), and Specifications of Performance Contracts with HHSC.

·  Skill in oral and written communication, and in using a computer and applicable software.

 Strong organizational skills, with ability to plan and organize independently.

·  Ability to communicate effectively.

·  Highly effective in working objectively with a diverse group of people and be able to demonstrate communication, organizational, administrative and office skills.

·  This position requires the individual to have the ability to organize one's time and prioritize responsibilities which would enable one to complete all duties as assigned.

·  Qualified candidates should be approachable, unreserved, and have a sociable attitude, with minimal fear of new environments and people to aid in forming relationships with individuals within a residential setting.

·  Knowledge and/or awareness of mental health and substance related disorder.

·  Understanding and practice of Trauma Informed Care principles.

Essential Duties

1. Complete all menu and meal planning daily for 12-15 individuals within residential unit.

2. Prepare and/or plan all daily meals (for 3 meals per day) and snacks, including planning and preparing for weekend meals.

3. Responsible for maintaining inventory for food and kitchen supplies.

4. Responsible for assisting with grocery ordering and/or shopping to occur twice weekly.

5. Responsible for assisting with menu planning and menu changes as needed.

6. Responsible for assisting with kitchen clean-up and ensuring kitchen is well stocked and organized at all times.

7. Attend and participate in monthly staff meetings.

8. Performs additional duties as deemed necessary by supervisor within designated timeframes.

9. Interact with consumers, co-workers, and other community agency staff in a courteous and respectful manner.

10. Work in a team setting and provides support and assistance to other team members when needed.

11. Complies with Center policies, laws, regulations, and confidentiality requirements at all times.
