Therapist II

Under the direction of the Senior Director of Clinical Services and within federal, state and local guidelines performs advanced therapeutic work. Work involves providing counseling under minimal supervision, with considerable latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment. The therapist will have the choice to office out of the Denton, Lewisville, or Flower Mound office. 

This role offers a hybrid work schedule and flexible hours to accommodate the needs of the therapist so long as the therapist’s professional responsibilities and organizational needs are met.

Education, Training and Experience 

  • Master’s degree in psychology, counseling, sociology, social work, or other human services field that meets the requirements of Licensed Professional of Healing Arts (LPHA) required. 
  • Requires current licensing from the state of Texas as a Licensed Clinical Social Worker, Licensed Professional Counselor, and/or Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist. 
  • LCSW, LPC, and/or LMFT supervisors are preferred but not required. 
  • Supervisory licenses will have the opportunity to provide clinical supervision to associate licensed individuals throughout the Center.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of community and government service delivery systems and case management delivery systems; of case guidelines, regulations, and policies; of interviewing techniques; of mental illness and the emotional components of physical illness; of rehabilitation methods; of individual needs associated with disabilities; and of community welfare resources.
  • Skill in interviewing and in conducting individual needs assessments.
  • Ability to convey instructions and explanations to clients and interested parties, to negotiate available services, and to train others. The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. 

Essential Duties:

1. Oversees and interviews clients, their families, law enforcement officials, schools, and health and social welfare institutions to obtain client background information.

2. Oversees and evaluates the psychosocial, economic, and physical needs of clients.

3. Oversees and counsels clients and their families and coordinates placements of clients with community facilities and schools.

4. Oversees and reviews clinical treatment services, including individual, group, and family therapy.

5. Provide counseling services within fourteen (14) days of receiving referral of client. If you cannot take on additional clients, notify the LPHA assessor who will then notify the referring case manager, within twenty-four (24) hours of receipt of referral during scheduled counseling/therapy appointments, so client can be referred to another therapist for timely counseling services.

6. Conduct face-to-face, audio, and/or video contact with individual clients, providing counseling services using Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT) and Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT) as mandated by the State of Texas.

7. Provide counseling services to 20-25 clients per week based on workload.

8. Have face-to-face, and/or video contact with client's Legally Authorized Representative, if required and applicable.

9. Conduct group counseling sessions.

10. Develops individual treatment plans; and assesses and reassesses clients’ support systems and available community resources, schools, and/or facilities per the Health and Human Services Commission (HHSC) guidelines.

11. Ensures that all documentation for services rendered is submitted to the Center within (2) business days.

12. Collaborates on discharges for clients by collaborating with the client, family, interdisciplinary treatment team, and community resources.

13. If applicable, provides weekly clinical supervision to center staff as per state regulations assigned by respective state licensing boards.
