Volunteer

We are currently seeking compassionate and dedicated volunteers to join our team at Denton County MHMR Center. As a volunteer, you will have the opportunity to make a meaningful impact on the lives of individuals with mental health and intellectual disabilities by providing valuable support, companionship, and assistance to both staff and individuals served.

Responsibilities will be dependent upon the volunteer role and the capacity you are comfortable with. We have volunteer opportunities in all programs and departments within the Center. 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist in planning Center and community based events. 
  • Engage in one-on-one interactions with individuals served, offering companionship and emotional support.
  • Participate in recreational and therapeutic activities that promote positive social interactions and personal growth.
  • Help create a welcoming and safe environment by greeting visitors, answering questions, and providing information about our facility's services.
  • Greet individuals in our main lobbies. 
  • Support clients in accessing resources within the facility, such as educational materials and self-help tools.
  • Collaborate with staff to maintain a clean and organized facility, ensuring a comfortable space for all clients.
  • Maintain confidentiality and adhere to all ethical guidelines and policies established by the facility.
  • Spend one on one time with individuals who are in nursing care facilities. 
  • Help with wrapping gifts during the Holiday season for our Holiday Helping Hands program. 
  • Serve as outreach to individuals experiencing loss by suicide on our LOSS team. 

Qualifications:

  • Compassionate and empathetic nature, with a genuine desire to make a positive impact on the lives of others.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to actively listen and engage with individuals from diverse backgrounds.
  • Respectful of personal boundaries and capable of maintaining confidentiality.
  • Reliable, punctual, and committed to fulfilling volunteer duties as scheduled.
  • No prior experience required; training will be provided.
